Lakeside Reflections, located at 617 Brown Forman Road (just
off Utica Pike) is not unlike The Phoenix, a mythical bird
that lived for 500 years and then consumed itself in fire,
rising renewed from the ashes. Owners Clark and Brenda Nickles
have taken what others have discarded, torn down and thrown
away and turned it into a thing of functional beauty. (Clark
Nickles also owns Nickles Excavating.)
Beginning with the land where it sits, Lakeside Reflections
is adjacent to a small lake in the old Clark County Rock Quarry.
The area surrounding the facility has taken on a renewed look
as the staff has been planting trees and laying sod while
care is being taken so as not to disturb the wildlife found
in abundance. Ducks, geese and beavers share their homes with
our visitors.
The building itself is a truly unique story. Most of the
materials came from previous structures. The oak and leaded
glass double entry door came from Olivia's, a restaurant that
used to be on Dixie Highway. The gently curved 55 foot bar
is made from used bricks that were originally in the United
Home Furnishings Bldg. and is topped with black glass from
a service station formerly located at Preston and Fern Valley
Road. Three softly illuminated arches over the bar once lighted
the entrance to Clark County Hospital.
The Lakeside Room, a glassed enclosed dinning area that will
seat 250, looks out onto the lake through windows that were
originally found in a Wendy's restaurant on Bardstown Road.
The majority of the structure for this room came from a welding
shop that was a part of the Corp of Engineers at McAlpine
Dam.
The kitchen (that features Catering By Brenda, an in-house
service) is built from materials that originally were found
in a classroom at Pleasant Ridge School in Charlestown, Indiana.
A portion of the roof came from the Pleasant Ridge gymnasium.
The furnace and the ceiling tiles came from Marble Hill.
The piece d' resistance is the circular dance floor found
inside a 300,000-gallon water storage tank from Brown Forman
Distilleries. The walls are softened with heavy black draperies
from Clarksville High School's stage. A dropped ceiling twinkles
with hundreds of stars offering romance to dancers. A stellar
sound and lights system custom designed by MOM's Music makes
this room perfect for DJ or live music.
The Fountain Room, the latest expansion, seats 300 and features
a lovely work of art made of lighted ceiling glass panels.
The room's focal points include a wishing well as well as
the Fountain that is responsible of the name. The addition
makes Lakeside Reflections the largest facility under one
roof in southern Indiana.
If you are thinking that a piece of this and a portion of
that must look like a clean up following a tornado, you could
not be more wrong. It does not take an architect or a builder
to see that under the loving hand of Mr. Manford Eckart, each
piece has been expertly put together to form a truly unique
facility.
